Overview
Auto-LIFT Gas Springs provide a seamless solution for applications that require only two positions—fully open or securely closed under an external load. These gas springs offer reliable force assistance, making operating panels, hoods, doors, and lids straightforward.
Auto-LIFT gas springs are engineered with precise damping characteristics to deliver smooth, controlled movement and support safe, user-friendly handling. The design includes a hydro-pneumatic adjusting element composed of a pressure tube, piston rod with piston, and compatible end fitting. Nitrogen gas within the spring maintains consistent pressure on the piston, generating force in the extension direction. The filling pressure can be customized to meet specific application needs.
Compared to mechanical springs, Auto-LIFT gas springs offer several advantages, including a defined speed profile, customizable damping, compact dimensions, simple installation, and a broad range of available forces and end fittings. They are suitable for applications requiring reliable and consistent operation, even with heavy components.
Auto-LIFT comes in the following 3 categories:
Damping in Extension
Damping in Compression
Damping in Both Directions
Damping in Extension
As the gas spring nears full extension, it moves through a small oil chamber that softens the motion. This hydraulic cushioning regulates the extension speed, preventing abrupt stops. Inside the spring, a controlled amount of oil and nitrogen gas maintains smooth operation and reliable end-position damping.
Applications
- Tailgates
- Luggage compartments
- Engine flaps
- Engine hoods
- Cabin doors
- Textile machinery
- Packaging machines
- Sealing machines
- Printing machines
- Garbage chute covers
- Lofts in lobbies, homes & office
Damping in Compression
When the gas spring compresses, it passes through an oil chamber designed to soften the motion. The hydraulic cushioning slows the compression stroke, and the orifice size in the system dictates how quickly or smoothly it completes the movement.
Applications
- Tailgates
- Luggage compartments
- Engine flaps
- Engine hoods
- Cabin doors
- Textile machinery
- Packaging machines
- Sealing machines
- Printing machines
- Garbage chute covers
- Lofts in lobbies, homes & office
Damping in both Direction
Some gas springs feature damping during both extension and compression. The piston-based system softens the motion at each end of the stroke, preventing sudden stops. This design supports smooth, controlled movement in both directions, improving handling and performance.
Applications

- Engine flaps
- Engine hoods
- Cabin doors
